Preacher: Matthew Poock

Scripture: 1 Kings 19:1-18

Sermon introduction (missing from the audio):
Our scripture reading for today is from the Old Testament book of 1 Kings. Three kings ruled over Israel as a united kingdom: King Saul, King David, and King Solomon. When Solomon died, his son Rehoboam took the throne. The people asked Rehoboam to lighten their burden and lower their taxes. (Some things never change! People are still asking for lower taxes. There’s a new tax plan in front of Congress right now. King Rehoboam refused…and the northern half of the kingdom split away from the South. The northern kingdom too the name Israel. The southern kingdom was known as Judah.
