Confirmation

Our confirmation program is held for middle school students, in grades 6-8. We have adult volunteers, who are typically parents of the students, to lead the small group studies. They meet with groups of four or five students during the Wednesday classtime. We are also blessed with volunteers to lead our mentor program at the conclusion of the last year of instruction.

The curriculum may vary from year to year but is typically intended for a large-group/small-group style curriculum and has strong roots in our Lutheran faith. The group meets every Wednesday for 90 minutes during the school year, with several weeks devoted to fellowship or service outings.

Volunteers for the program are always welcome

NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING SPONSORSHIP/PARTNERSHIP

In July 2012, 11 youth and 2 adults will be joining another 39,000 youth at the ELCA National Youth Gathering. Each youth is responsible for approximately $600 to participate in this life-changing experience. The whole St. John’s community is invited to come alongside them and participate in this experience too! A sponsorship provides a youth with at least $50 towards the cost AND a personal prayer partner. This is a one-on-one, personal connection between a St. John’s member and a youth that will strengthen both people in faith and community. A partnership provides the entire group with a donation towards the cost and continued prayer for the group as they prepare. This is an invitation to join the youth as they discover more about God and what God’s up to in the world. Contact the office or Becca Poock beccapoock@gmail.com to join them either as a sponsor or partner as they prepare for New Orleans!

St. John’s is sending eight high school youth and two adults to the youth gathering in New Orleans next summer! (There are still a couple of spots if you are still considering. Please contact Becca Poock (beccapoock@gmail.com for more information.)

As delegates from Evansville, they will grow in faith and experience God in ways never imagined! There will be many opportunities St. John’s can participate and support the group as they prepare to go. Please keep them in your prayers and consider how you might support these young members of our faith community: Sarah Deininger, Alexandra Gober, Nicholas Lehman, Joshua Michel, Larissa Olin, Taylor Puckett, Gabrielle Sunness, Zachery Wells, Angie Olin (adult), and Pastor Matthew Poock (adult).

St. John’s is the place to be on Friday, November 4, from 7pm till 11pm! Our priority is to have fun! This event is for all Middle School
and High School youth. We’ll play games, eat, laugh, and hang out. Friends are welcome to come. Please bring a snack to share and $3 to
help cover pizza. You can also bring a favorite board game. (Everyone must be in by 7:30pm. Advanced permission or the presence of your own parent is needed in order to leave early.) Make sure to arrange a ride for 11pm. By then we’ll all be worn out and ready to crash. It helps to let Pastor Matt know if you’re coming. Don’t miss it!
