Reverend Bob Garbrecht

Former pastor Robert Garbrecht was born on February 1, 1926 in Oconto Falls, WI.  He graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1943.  Robert graduated from Capital University in Columbus, OH in 1949.  He graduated from Trinity Seminary in Columbus, OH in 1953.  He was ordained on June 28, 1953 at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls, WI.garbrecht

Pastor Garbrecht served the following Lutheran Congregations during his 50 year ministry; St. John’s of Avoca, WI along with Peace of Cobb, WI, St. Paul’s of Imlay City, MI, Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville, WI, St. John’s in Evansville, WI and finally as visitation Pastor for Christ in Stoughton, WI.  Pastor Garbrecht was named Pastor Emeritus of St. John’s in 1990.

Robert was very active in the community serving on numerous church-wide and community boards such as the Conference Coordinator on World Hunger, Dean of Southlake Conference and Retired Clergy, Kiwanis Club, Student Assistance Program, Evansville Community School Board, Community Committee Study of School Needs and the Skaalen Home Board.

In his retirement Bob continued to enjoy a love of the outdoors fostered during his youth with a love of gardening, golfing, hunting and fishing.

At the age of  83, Bob passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at home. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 3, 2009. he was buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in  Evansville. Bob is survived by his wife Phyllis, son James (Mary) Garbrecht of Mundelein, IL, daughter Kathryn (Gregory) Leland of Bricelyn, MN, daughter Carol (Thomas) Mullin of Anoka, MN, and son John (Patti) Garbrecht of Bethesda, MD. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa (Justin) Pieper, Robert Garbrecht, Bethany Garbrecht, Kelsey (Christoph) Dundas, Michael Leland, Brian Leland, Olivia Garbrecht and great grandson Logan Garbrecht.  Robert is also survived by his brother Elmer (Shirley) Garbrecht of Oconto Falls, WI and brother-in-law Donald (Carolyn) Koehl of Reading, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henrietta and Otto Garbrecht.
